FREEDOM TO GET MARRIED!

(No matter WHAT the boss says.)

*****

If you are interested in South Africa, you may want to try watching this - if you can.

There I was, minding my own business, reading The Presurfer. His blog is always full of interesting links to the weirdest sites. It was there that I came across the “gore” version of the bash/slap/smack/beat/throw/bliksem the penguin game.

That was exactly it - blood and guts and gore and landmines. Yes, landmines. If a penguin hits a landmine, he gets to travel even further.

It’s gross, I won’t link to it out of respect to my little flightless friends - you can find the link over at The Presurfer - if you are really into that much violence. Urgh.

In the meantime, South Africa is holding thumbs that Charlize Theron walks off with the Oscar for her performance in Monster. I have not seen the movie, but I have read a number of bad reviews.

Considering that the last movie I saw was Finding Nemo and the one before that was The Truman Show, there is pretty much no chance that I will get to see Monster.

Yeah. Yeah.

1. Why are people doing “blood penguin bash” searches?

2. Trepanation: you have to have a hole in your head for this one. It’s far weirder than I can stomach.

3. I need a beer.

Watching all of this, I am glad I live in South Africa:

The South African Constitution - as the world's only - explicitly guarantees the rights of homosexuals. The country's gay and lesbian couples are however still barred from marrying. Still, this week's progresses make South Africa one of the countries in the world with the most ample rights for same-sex couples.

These people are not talking about war. They are not shooting people. They are not throwing bombs. They are not raping. They are not stealing. They are not designing nuclear weapons. They are not deceiving nations. They are not committing fraud. They are not assaulting people. They are not murdering. They are not committing high treason or espionage. They are not robbers. They are not behaving with criminal intent. They are not discriminating. They are not guilty of terrorist attacks. They are not vandalists. They are not arsonists. They are not assassins. They are not kidnappers. They are not talking about corruption. No, they are not.

This is simply a pouring out of love - something that this world needs a lot more of.

Now, I don’t actually know any gay couples that got married in San Francisco, but I do read this blog quite often. Congratulations, “MJ and the missus”, what a beautiful story! Some flowers for you two ...

Schwarzenegger asks attorney general to stop granting of gay marriage licenses.

And on the same topic, you have to love this photo:

The full photo can be seen here.

In the meantime I am sending a boatload of semicolons over to San Francisco!

SIMPLY WEIRD.

Charlie’s x-rays showed that her little lungs are a lot better. The vet is happy with the progress. She still needs to be on daily cortisone pills for a while and then we go over to one pill every two days. Seems that smoking outside has helped a lot - now we just need to get her to give up smoking totally!

It is a cheap camera. Plastic body, plastic lense, only two F stops. You might have to tape the batteries in to work. You might have to tape the seams of the body closed to keep light from bleeding through to the film. It is FUN! The pictures are great because they are medium format and not 35mm. You have more area for your composition. Yes, it is cheap and the results can be a bit strange; but it is a fantastic camera and well worth every penny. Take it with you everywhere and take pictures of everything. It is that fun and easy to use.

I want a Holga 120 SF ...

Remember the DUCK?

Frankie flew to Hollywood.

Charlie is fine.

It is still difficult to give her the pills, but I am managing.

On Monday Tuesday she goes back for x-rays ....

to check whether smoking outside has helped!

It seems mandatory that, if you have a blog,

you have to show the world where in the world you have been.

(Mauritius does not show up very well on this map

It is to the right of Madagascar.)

Do your own map here.

I gave up penguin bashing for scrabble:

The score is not great, but at least I managed to use up all the tiles,

without swapping tiles ....
