BACK TO FLIGHTLESS FARRAGO

FARRAGO'S 100 THINGS

I was born in Johannesburg, in 1959. In 1961 my parents moved to Durban, where I went to school. When I completed my schooling, at the age of 18, I moved back to Johannesburg where I obtained a B. A. degree from the Rand Afrikaans University. In 1996 I moved to Cape Town. I am happy here and won't leave Cape Town. Neither will I take part in any kind of "chicken run" .

SOUTH AFRICA.
The first pet I ever had was a dog. It was given to me, on my second birthday, by Jimmy "It leaves me cold" Kruger.  [blush]  Since then I have been a cat person rather than a dog person. On the 2nd of April 2002, Litts (one of my two cats) died at the age of 20 years old. That was certainly the saddest thing I have ever experienced.

LITTS.

HUFFIES AND LITTS.
Litts and Huffies
At the office I drink diet Cokes, at home I drink decaffeinated coffee and when I go out I drink beer (Amstels). The local pub, where I hang out most often, is called Café Manhattan. I do not like wine at all, it gives me heartburn - even the "good" wines do. Earlier this year, for three months, I drank eight glasses of water a day. I stopped when I started noticing the fins.

AMSTEL.
I enjoy listening to Leonard Cohen, Joan Baez and Vangelis. I also enjoy opera and some classical stuff, but detest rap, hip-hop and similar cacophonies. I have never acquired a taste for jazz. Winamp plays non-stop while I am at the computer.

VANGELIS, BAEZ AND COHEN.
I read almost anything, but prefer non-fiction. I have read all Antony Sher's books. I still enjoy reading Dr Seuss! I dislike love stories. I have six bibles in the home, but I am not a Christian. I also enjoy reading cookery books, travel books and dictionaries. (I have more dictionaries in the home than I have bibles.)

SHER AND SEUSS.
Christianity has caused more problems in my family than it has solved. Pascal's Wager does not work on me. To me, primordial soup makes a lot of sense and I hope that, through Seti (or similar), alien life is found. I believe that finding alien life will have a greater effect on mankind than a cure for aids or cancer. I hope it happens in my lifetime.

PRIMORDIAL SOUP.
I drive a 1997 Volkswagen Citi Golf, bought brand new (yep, it is blue). This is my second car. My first car was also a Citi Golf, which got stolen from outside the apartment block that I live in. The car I have now has been broken into three times. My current car has 56 000km on the clock and needs a service. With regard to other crime and violence that I have personally experienced, I have had a TV aerial stolen from the roof and a Weber stolen from the garden. Somebody once ripped a chain from my neck. A young man bravely saved me from the situation which looked as if it was going to get far worse than a simple chain-grabbing. I have experienced more theft of goods in the six years in Cape Town than in 18 years in Johannesburg.
VOLKSWAGEN CITI GOLF.
I read all of the blogs that I link to and I have never asked anybody to link to my blog. I blog after work, so my blog only gets updated in the evenings. I normally blog with Huffies on my lap. My first blog post was made on Saturday, 29 June 2002 and I have blogged every day since. Other than my partner, only one real-life friend (that I know of) is aware of this blog. My blog still has no ultimate purpose and I think it should stay that way.

THEY FORCED ME TO BLOG.
Careerwise,  I have always been involved with market research. I currently work for a marketing company. I moved to my current company after a year and  a half of working from home. The four walls eventually drove me to finding a position at a company where I would see more people during the day. I have presented four market research papers at research conventions, including one this year. I hate presenting to crowds, I don't know why I do it. Oh, yes, I also read a lot of marketing related books.

MARKET RESEARCH, AT ALL COSTS.
I live with my partner, we have been together for almost 4 years. I am gay, but don't feel the need to make that an issue in my everyday life or in the posts to the blog. I am human first!
THE other RAINBOW FLAG.
I live a short 8-minute walk away from the beach, in a two-bedroom apartment, with a private garden. I (and the bank) own my apartment. The kitchen is so small that you won't be able to park a bicycle in it. The total floorspace (excluding the garden, of course) is 61 square meters. I chose this specific location because it is away from any main roads and the cats are not likely to be run over by a car. I live 7kms away from where I work and 40kms from my parents, who moved from Durban to Cape Town three years ago. And, from Sea Point, no matter where you work, you will be travelling against the traffic.

WHERE I LIVE.
I once drew a cat with my mouse! This is my cat:

THE CAT I DREW WITH MY MOUSE.
Other than travelling within South Africa, I have travelled to Europe (twice), Mauritius (once) and Swaziland (three times). The Swaziland trips were all business trips. The next place I would like to visit is Japan.

MOUNT FIJI.
My next local holiday is likely to be in Greyton, Western Cape, South Africa. I love city living, but prefer to get away from "it all" for holidays. As far as I am concerned, "roughing it" is a black-and-white TV. I have not yet travelled along South Africa's famous Garden Route.

GREYTON.
My favourite colour is .................. BLUE! And Blues is a damn fine restaurant. The prices are high, the food is average, but the view of the sea is stunning, which makes it all worthwhile.

SOME OF MY FAVOURITE COLOURS.
With regard to food, I eat almost anything other than lettuce and cucumber. I like ordering a Greek salad in a restaurant and asking the waiter to make sure that there is not lettuce or cucumber in it. The most vile food thought I ever had was "canned lettuce". I love chilies and eat whole jalapenos. Normal day-to-day cooking in the home is fairly simple as we both work full days and get home quite exhausted. However, I do love cooking. We eat out approximately once a week.

CULLING CUCUMBERS.
My favourite season is Spring. I love the rain in Winter, but hate wearing long-sleeved shirts. I dont like clothing around my wrists. My "uniform" is jeans and t-shirts.

UNIFORM.
My next "big ticket" item is going to be a digital camera. That could be years from now ....

Bryan Adams touched my arm at a concert at Sun City. [Eeeep!] A friend introduced me to Joan Armatrading at a concert in Johannesburg. I have also seen Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, Elton John, Rod Stewart, Paul Simon, UB40, OMD and Spike Milligan live. I have Spike Milligan's autograph. I hate crowds, I don't know why I went to these concerts. I don't go to live concerts anymore.

BRYAN ADAMS.
I am a female, I wear glasses, I have blue eyes and brown hair and I am 167cm tall. I need to lose some weight. This photograph was taken in July 2002.

If you read carefully, there are just over 100 facts about myself on this page. I just thought that doing it like this would make it easier to read.

This task is now done!
